Spotify Wrapped
Happy Substackmas Day 3 but most importantly happy Spotify wrapped!
One day each year, many of us look forward to seeing which music filled our ears the most. It’s a moment to reflect on why certain songs mattered so much and how they carried us through different seasons of life. It almost feels like a time capsule of your year and all the phases you’ve endured.
Mine this year was pretty predictable but I thought it would be fun to go through my top 5 songs and what they remind me of!
My top song this year was party 4 u by Charli XCX:
This brings me back to the last 3 months of senior year. This song was on REPEAT. Probably so much that it got annoying. The song is the perfect sad club song. Which is maybe why I was listening to it towards the end of my senior year. Going out with my roommates and friends was fun but also emo cause I knew it would be ending soon. What I love most about this song is the imagery. Charli XCX is a literal poet. The edits on tik tok to this song ROCKED. Charli XCX was one of my top artists this year. I’ve been obsessed with her music since Brat but have been slowly listening to her other albums this summer. I can’t wait to hear her Wuthering Heights album.
My second top song was Sally When the Wine Runs Out by Role Model:
I LOVE Role Model and Jake Shane and this song is definitely about Jake. This song brings me back to February in the car with Claire and Bacca. We were probably either on our way to Club Dunkin or to get a charged tea. Our vocal tick all month was us saying SALLY. I think we played this song like four times in that one car ride. It’s one of those songs that just makes you instantly happy.
My third top song was Revolving Door by Tate McRae:
March and April were my busiest months this year and this song got me through. Between my responsibilities with JWIC, putting on my last dance show and building my network in Boston this song hit close to home.I was ADDICTED. I was addicted to the music video and trying to learn how to do Tate’s iconic trick. I was addicted to the bridge of the song because it made me feel excited to tackle my busy schedule. I was addicted because it talks about Boston. Leah just texted me this song yesterday saying she was thinking of me. I’m so honored to be associated with this song.
My fourth top song was Sports Car by Tate McRae:
When Sports Car was first released I listened to it a lot. It was one of Tate’s singles she put out before releasing the full album So Close to What. I think my true obsession with this song was when she performed it at the VMAS. If I could be any pop star ever it would be Tate McRae. Her performance was mind blowing. I know Spotify stops tracking in October for this but I have also had it on repeat since Alix Earle did her freestyle dance to this on Dancing with the Stars.
My fifth top song was Tit for Tat by Tate McRae:
Another Tate McRae song! Oops! Can you guess who my top artist was this year? This song was super recent so maybe it’s embarrassing that it made its way to number five on my list. But come on this song is the best breakup comeback like maybe ever. Again Tate McRae is a literal pop genius. I would go to her concert just for the dancing.
For fun I thought I would add in my top artists and also albums!
